You will work with a company manager to design the primary project, which, for business internships, can focus on coming up with strategies to boost organizational development and financial management. You will work on a series of deliverables, which might include industry research, identifying investor leads, or developing marketing strategies. You will refine skills in statistical modeling, financial data analysis, and computational software use while engaging in market research. McKinsey’s Sophomore Summer Business Analyst Internship is an opportunity for students from underrepresented backgrounds in business and consulting to gain hands-on experience in the field. After an initial week of training, you will be placed into a team of three to five McKinsey consultants to directly contribute to a client case, completing tasks like data collection, market analysis, company research, and presentation design. You will have a designated company mentor to guide you through the experience, answer questions, and help you plan for a future consulting career. You’ll also get to attend affinity group meetings with interns and current employees from underserved backgrounds. The SSBA Internship is often a gateway to internship positions in future summers, which in turn often lead to full-time employment after graduation.

Deloitte’s Business & Technology Discovery Internship provides a specialized consulting program with a strong emphasis on mentorship. You will work with both a high-level mentor (typically a manager or senior manager) and a younger employee (typically a former intern) to receive guidance and training throughout the program. During the internship, you will work on client cases related to legal compliance and audits, regulatory assurance, and technology-focused businesses, with tasks usually focused on research and presentation development. You will also attend regular educational and networking events, industry spotlights, and supplemental training sessions. High-performing Discovery Interns have the chance to be invited to participate in a more advanced internship the following summer.

Over the course of the internship, you will rotate through specialized areas, working with teams in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and debt capital markets. You will work on assignments like assembling documents on business mergers and acquisitions, performing due diligence research for transactions, developing pitch materials for corporate clients, and financial modeling analysis. Altman Solon’s summer internships can offer you experience in management consulting as well as in areas like technology, media, and telecommunications. You will be assigned one or two specific projects, where you will serve as a member of a case team composed of current Altman Solon employees. While focusing on problem-solving for corporate clients, you will help develop strategies through data analysis and market research. You will engage in business modeling, analyzing market sizing, utilizing Excel for financial data analysis, and creating resources for clients to integrate into their workflow. You’ll also get to experience client-facing work by contributing to presentations and recommendations in client meetings. Interns with strong performances often receive return offers; as a business student, you may also be eligible to receive funding to complete an MBA after two years of full-time work at Altman Solon.

If you are interested in non-corporate careers, NYC’s Summer Internship Program is an opportunity to observe and support municipal government operations. Opportunities are available across NYC government agencies, including the Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget. Here, you will contribute to managing the largest city budget in the United States and overseeing the work of nearly 90 agencies and affiliated entities. The Office focuses on developing and implementing NYC’s budgets and spending, evaluating financial efficiency and government services, modifying fiscal plans based on financial resources and legislation, and reviewing financing capital projects. Past SIP interns in the Office of Management and Budget have worked within areas such as Development, Training and Coordination, and Communications and Operations.Â
