The National University of Singapore College of Design and Engineering (CDE)'s Summer School provides opportunities for pre-university students to explore the interdisciplinary field of engineering and design. You will attend faculty-led workshops with host departments, such as the Department of the Built Environment, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department, and more. You will participate in hands-on design and engineering lab activities, such as building a robot or a solar portable fan. Hosted at the Engineering Design and Innovation Centre, Innovation and Design Hub, you will visit the NUS labs of various departments. You will gain exposure to campus life and build connections with NUS instructors and students.

The Lumiere Research Scholar Program is a rigorous research program tailored for high school students, offering extensive 1-on-1 research opportunities for high school students. There is a broad range of subject areas to explore, including in the fields of STEM, Humanities, and Social Sciences. The program pairs high school students with Ph.D. mentors to work 1-on-1 on an independent research project. At the end of the 12-week program, you’ll have developed an independent research paper! You will visit the university's labs and research centres to experience how engineering and technology designs are applied in real-world situations. This short-term course, offered by the Institute of Technical Education Applied Learning Modules, focuses on motorbikes and e-bikes, giving you exposure to the Higher Nitec in Automotive Engineering course. You will attend lectures and participate in hands-on practical activities with learning components, including pre-riding checks and rider safety measures. You will learn how to make a maintenance check of a bike's critical components, such as checking the battery condition, inspecting tyres, assessing the braking (USD177)  system, and more. You will also gain basic knowledge of e-bike operations and how the battery can be changed. This interactive course is led by faculty from ITE's School of Electronics & Info-comm Technology. You will learn how to make diagrams to understand how various components of an AV system connect, such as speakers, projectors, and microphones, and their specific functions. You will work in a team of peers to design and build an AV system, then test and present it. You will gain key skills in creative technology, understanding crucial aspects such as the proper alignment of projects and correct cable connections. ITE's 'Unveil the Secret of Rail System' is a short-term course for students to explore the field of transportation engineering in the niche area of train systems. You will learn the protocols and basic operational communications in a transit system- radio etiquette, the correct method to contact the train driver while at the track side, and more. You will also learn how to deal with a transit system crisis in a safe manner. You will gain hands-on experience in executing radio protocols and building a simple train system. You will acquire foundational knowledge of the concepts of building management systems and exposure to high-tech equipment used on-site by industry professionals, such as drones. Learning modules include understanding key components of building facilities- electrical wiring, air conditioning, and ventilation systems, and more. You will also gain the troubleshooting skills to locate a fault in any of these facilities. You will gain technical skills, such as writing programs for drones used for building inspections in adherence to government aviation rules, interpreting electrical wiring diagrams, and installing LED lamps. This APLM course at the ITE College Central gives you opportunities to explore aeronautical engineering through learning modules of aviation concepts and principles. You will acquire foundational knowledge about the basic principles of flight and gain exposure to key components of aeroplanes. Other learning modules include understanding the operation of primary flight controls and their effects on aircraft manoeuvres, functions of a plane’s components, and more. Led by ITE's School of Engineering faculty, you will dive into the shapes and configurations of a plane's wing shape, keeping in mind aspects of gravity and equilibrium. You will also design and build your own wooden glider! You will receive a certificate on successful completion of the course.

You will gain insight into ITE's Higher Nitec in Mechanical Engineering course. You will have hands-on learning experiences in understanding the basics of design, production, and quality control of automated machines. You will build your own AGV and learn to control its path using Microsoft programming languages. Learning components include connecting wires and sensors to the vehicle controller and writing programming language to guide the AGV along a tracking line, avoid obstacles, and more. If you’re interested in electronics and robots, consider ITE's Mobile Robot in Mechatronics course, which provides exposure to ITE's Higher Nitec program in Mechatronics Engineering. Learning components include computer and microcontroller system architecture and robotic program development software. You will design and build your own robot through the lessons on electronic circuits and microcontrollers. You will write programs for controlling the robot's actions, and learn to debug and test them. You will develop technical skills as well as creativity and logical thinking abilities. An ITE certificate will be awarded at the end of the course.
