The NIH Clinical Center Summer Internship Program is an eight-week paid research experience for undergraduate students interested in clinical and translational science. Interns join research teams within the Clinical Center, working under a Principal Investigator in areas such as radiology, bioethics, rehabilitation medicine, and nursing. You’ll participate in laboratory or clinical research, assist with data analysis, and attend seminars led by NIH investigators. A key feature of the radiology internship for undergraduates is the NIH Summer Poster Day, where students present their research to peers and faculty across the institute. R²SVP at Massachusetts General Hospital connects undergraduate and medical trainees from around the world with faculty researchers across 11 imaging divisions, including neuroradiology, interventional radiology, and molecular imaging. During the radiology internship for undergraduates, scholars work closely with a faculty mentor on one or more projects involving study design, data collection, and analysis, with the expectation of contributing to at least one manuscript for peer-reviewed publication. The University of Pennsylvania’s SUPERS program is an intensive summer research experience focused on radiation sciences, where undergraduate students engage in individual hypothesis-driven projects under the mentorship of faculty experts. You’ll work directly in laboratories specializing in radiation biology, radiology, physics, bioengineering, and related fields, learning how to design experiments, analyze data, and interpret scientific findings. The Northwestern University Radiology UIM Research Summer Fellowship is a 6 to 10-week program designed for students underrepresented in medicine (UIM) who want to explore radiology through hands-on research. Participants work closely with faculty mentors to develop and execute research projects that may focus on clinical imaging studies, artificial intelligence, interventional radiology, or diagnostic imaging technologies. You’ll define study objectives, test hypotheses, and analyze imaging data while gaining exposure to the research process within an academic medical center. The University of Michigan’s Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP) is designed to prepare underrepresented undergraduates for graduate-level research and study. The program offers internships in varied specialties, so you’ll need to apply to be placed in the radiology department. Over the summer, students conduct research under faculty mentorship in fields like imaging informatics, magnetic resonance (MR) research, and image analysis within the Department of Radiology. Each student is matched with a faculty mentor and conducts an independent research project in areas such as MRI, nuclear imaging, radiochemistry, nanotechnology, or diagnostic engineering. You’ll work in advanced biomedical laboratories developing technologies that support cancer detection and treatment while attending seminars, journal clubs, and professional development workshops. Wake Forest University’s CALIBIR (Creative Applied Learning in Biomedical Informatics Research) program is a summer research internship run by the Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and the Department of Biomedical Engineering. It introduces undergraduates and master’s students to research in biomedical informatics, imaging, and data science. Over the course of the program, you participate in mentored research projects that may explore advanced imaging diagnostics, AI-driven clinical decision-making, or machine learning applications in healthcare. The Radiological Sciences Laboratory REU at Stanford is a 10-week full-time summer program that introduces undergraduates to advanced imaging research across MRI, CT, X-ray, and ultrasound. Participants are matched with faculty mentors and contribute to original projects in image acquisition, analysis, and computational imaging. The experience includes weekly lectures on imaging science, participation in RSL meetings and seminars, and informal discussions with faculty about graduate school and research careers. Students also present their work during a final poster session, gaining experience in scientific communication. The radiology internship for undergraduates offers stipends to selected students, while others may participate voluntarily.

Ladder University Internship Program is a selective, virtual internship program where you work with startups and nonprofits from around the world! The startups range across a variety of industries. As part of their internship, each student will work on a real-world project that is of genuine need to the startup they are working with, and present their work at the end of their internship.
